Greetings!

Hi fellow Manchester Uni MADTCE students and anyone else who finds themselves reading this.
I'm Rachel Scott, a Distance Learner on the MADTCE course. I'm based in Sharjah in the UAE where I live with my husband Leandro (Brazilian), daughter Gabi (Brazinglish) and her nanny Marie Ann (Philipina). I teach English language to foundations students in Sharjah Women's College which is one of the UAE Higher Colleges of Technology. The students are all Emirati ladies of between 19 and 24.
Recently I've realised that when it come to medium and long term plans I'm almost entirely motivated by a perceived need for safety and security; I'm putting this down to motherhood. On an individual task basis though, I'd say that near-instant gratification and novelty is what grabs and keeps my attention and motivation.

  1. The UAE connection. I've been to Sharjah once, and mean to make it up again, but don't you need a couple of days off work, just to drive up Sheikh Zayed Road these days?

  2. You're not far wrong there! Our 25-minute drive to work in the morning has been up to 2 hours on some days. Fingers crossed though the traffic seems to be calming down a bit; some people are putting it down to fewer workers being needed on the construction sites during this time of economic caution. Thanks for being my first blog commenter!

  3. Hi Rachel,

It's great to meet a neighbor! I live in Ajman (very close to the Coral Beach resort). I am not working now, but I hope to start by the next school year. I hope to find a job either at HCT or Ajman university.

Its good to hear that the traffic is calming down. I used to work at Dubai Police over a year ago and I used to spend 2 hours going, and 20 minutes returning (I used to leave at 2 pm - not a rush hour)

We live really near to each other! I'm often in Ajman these days, let's meet up soon.
